Toy Pianos

Children love to bang on things so why not get them starting on banging piano keys? There are plenty of musical instruments for kids around, but pianos are a unique way for you to get your child on the way to music stardom! Speaking of stars, one of the stars of the toy piano scene is the Schoenhut Company. Schoenhut offers a large variety of bright red, white, black and other color combinations.  Their 18-key tabletop toy piano is an excellent choice for a toddler’s first piano. These instruments are fun as well as educational. They are ideal instruments for developing eye-hand coordination and encouraging musical creativity in children from age 6 months to 2 years.

These pianos are chromatically tuned with lovely chime-like notes. These unique sounds are produced by little hammers striking precision-ground, German made steel rods. The Schoenhut pianos series include patented play by color learning system. The system is designed around a removable color strip that fits behind the keys and matches those in the songbook.

 Children’s Xylophones

An alternative to the toy piano are children’s xylophone. One example is the 27 note chromatic xylophone with colored keys and solid construction to endure the wear and tear from little hands!  Despite their size, they are accurately tuned with the pitch engraved on each colored note bar. The tiny bars are held in place by metal bolts with plastic washers. Xylophones like this are self-contained and typically include their own high impact plastic carry case and mallets. One advantage to pianos is their smaller size which allows for greater portability.

Yamaha Recorders

For slightly older students, a classic musical instruments for kids is the recorder. Yamaha currently produces alto, soprano, tenor, and bass recorders. These classics are easy to play and include precise, uniform intonation for students of all levels. Recorders are often used in school music programs in large scale, in part because of their simplicity and inexpensive cost.

They are made of ABS resin plastic and the series is a perfect match for the beginning student. The most popular Yamaha school recorder is the YRS-24B model. This model includes the baroque fingering system.  This recorder also features a three-piece construction makes tuning easy as well as cleaning easier. This is an excellent way of introducing a child to wind instruments. A small investment might easily reveal your child’s lungs are far more talented than for screaming at their brother or sister!
