Baby Harp

For the child with a love of music, one of the most beautiful instruments to choose for them to start their musical careers with is the baby harp.  Celtic style harps have proven quite popular in this area. The most popular model is approximately 21 inches tall and has 12 nylon strings.  The solid Pakistani construction is made out of rosewood with hand engravings decorating the sides. Melody Harp

Melody harps are another option to consider if a stringed instrument is something your child expresses interest in. Handcrafted in Romania, these highly polished instruments offer a follow the dots to play method to teach playing. The method uses music sheet slipped under the strings. The student follows the dots of this easy to play lap harp.  Some models include various song sheets that also show the words for the song in question. Lap harps are typically features heavy duty string posts, tuning keys, and a carrying case. Depending on the supplier, additional song sheets are usually available.

Bontempi Trumpets, Saxophones, and Clarinets

If your student or child has some extra lung capacity, then a Bontempi trumpet or saxophone might just be right children musical instruments for them to start off with.

Bontempi are Italian made toy plastic shiny silver finish trumpets. The trumpet has four keys and can play different notes. The keys are color coded and three easy to play songs are printed on the back of the box. The recommended ages are 3 and up.

The Bontempi toy saxophone has 8 keys and can play a scale. The keys are also color coded and also include the three easy to play songs are printed on the back of the box.

Last in the Bontempi toy family is the 8 key clarinet which can play an entire scale. The shiny silver finish plastic clarinet also includes the color coding instruction scheme and also includes several instructional songs.  The clarinet is slighter longer than sixteen inches long.

Soprano Ukulele           

While the list can continue indefinitely, one more instrument to consider is a soprano ukulele. Already designed as a small instrument, a ukulele might be one of the best child instruments. When children are too small to handle even a half size guitar but still want to play, the ukulele is the best option. Most ukulele’s are built to withstand some punishment, so there’s generally no need to fear for the occasional bang and clank a child might be expected to inflict on their instrument!
