While the primary focus of any trained musician is on the quality of their instruments, they also know that their musical instruments accessories are just important.  The range of needed accessories is quite large and can vary from strings, guitar cases, metronomes, music stands, travel bags, cables, and more.

Like any instrument, the range of manufacturers and suppliers for accessories is quite significant.  Often a particular accessory might be customized by the manufacturer for their particular instrument, but often any general name brand is acceptable.

Music Instrument Stands

The variety of stands available is truly amazing. Musical stands are available for practically any instrument including guitars, violins, cymbals and snare drums to name a few. The design of stands includes x-style and tripod style designs for greater stability. The majority of x-style stands are typically smaller and lighter and hence much more portable. Multiple holding stands are also available for the student with a need to store their multiple guitars.

Sheet music stands also vary from the simple black stands many of us remember from high school choir, to very elaborate designs wooden styles.

Metronomes and Tuners

Metronomes and tuners are another common accessory particularly for guitarists. Even metronomes aren’t left out with specialized stands available for them as well. Light weight earphones are also available for most metronomes.

The variety of models available is quite impressive with many providing both functions. Quartz and key wound models are often preferred by many, because they are a little easier to use than digital models. This is due to the fact that you can dial the tempo quickly with a quartz model.

Digital model requires pressing a button till you get to the desired tempo. Digital Metronomes do have many features however, and will increment the tempo by one beat at a time.  

Travel Bags and Cases

The last thing you want after investing in your new instrument is for it to get scratched or banged up between gigs or traveling. While hard shell cases are generally heavier, they are typically constructed with a tough 5-ply cross laminated wood core with plush lining over soft foam padding interior to act as a shock absorber.

Lightweight cases are often constructed of a high density polystyrene foam shell. The design offers soft plush form-fitting interior that hugs your instrument.

Another option is thermoplastic molded double cutaway cases which provide a strong outer high-impact plastic shell that is reinforced with an internal aluminum frame for strength.

Music Instrument Cables

A variety of cables for everything from right angle to coiled style cords are available. Lengths can vary though 10ft and 20 ft are typical. Most cable manufacturers offer various tips, including gold-tipped metal plug, heat shrink tubing for strain relief, OFC Copper wire & braided shielding in assorted colors. Manufacturers like Fat Boy are particularly well known in this arena quite a few independent lines are also well known.

Musical Instruments for Kids

Virtually every kind of musical instrument is now available for kids. Whether in the form of miniature piano sets, beginner drums, or even more uncommon instruments, there are dozens of lines available. 1/2 Size and 3/4 Size Guitars for slightly older students are quite common as are violins, harmonicas, and even ukuleles.

It’s important to remember that many packages are also available for kid’s instruments. This is especially true in the case of guitars which often include beginner books, tuners, cases, and cleaning materials.

Websites focusing on custom made instruments do often have lead times associated with them, so it is important to note if this might the case when ordering. If items are name brand instruments, any delay should be minimal at most.
